Why you need a brand story video!

When it comes to being effective at brand marketing, it’s all about creating valuable content for the right audience. Ads are a wonderful thing, but once someone lands on your website, they clearly want to know more about your brand, your products/services and most of all YOU.

Video is without a doubt the best and most scalable way of presenting your brand’s complete identity. There’s no other medium where you can clearly communicate your story and that of your brand so clearly and profoundly in 2-3 minutes.

But it has to be done well. And there’s lots of key boxes to tick when it comes to nailing brand story videos so that once people watch it, they say - yes, that’s the person I want to have work for me, that’s who I want to invest in. So here’s why you need a brand story video.

#1 - Your video has to hook in the viewer, attention spans are getting shorter and shorter by the day and it’s so crucial to captivate an audience within the first 5 seconds, whether that’s with a really ear grabbing quote or a high energy montage of your products. People watch videos to learn things but they also must be entertained, or you will lose your potential customers VERY quickly.

#2 - People want to know who you are. I’m almost certain that whatever industry you work in there are countless other people out there who can do what you do. Perhaps not at the exact level, but within the vicinity, there will be lots of people with skills who can do the job you’re after. So how do we stand out? You be YOU. There is only one you, and by sharing your story - being authentic and intimate with new and existing customers, they’re going to connect with you and want to be a part of your story. If I’m tossing up between two home builders who both do great work, but one has a video of the builder that’s great and really assures me that they’re a great person above anything else.. That’s automatically the person I trust more to do the job, and that’s the person I’ll be calling first.

#3 - So how do we effectively communicate you? Your character, your experience, your expertise.. This is done through a series of strategic interview questions where we’ll allow you to detail these things clearly. Along with this, you’ll want to capture beautiful vision of you in your element, whether that’s building a house, fixing someone’s teeth or training your client in the gym.

#4 - Getting all of the above is just one part of the equation. Editing your brand’s story into something truly entertaining and engaging is the most important thing. Your brand story video is the most powerful video asset you will ever have. This video should sit at the top of your homepage and should be the first thing people click on when they land. Now if this video is done well and effectively, then you will have new clients flooding in to work with you.

#5 - Aside from sitting at the top of your homepage, this video should then be re-edited and re-purposed to be used across all social media platforms. Your 2-3 minute brand story video is also the most versatile video asset you’ll have. It can be made into several Instagram reels, several TikTok videos, numerous short cuts for Facebook and it can also be used on LinkedIn.

When you look at other forms of communication, blog posts are a great way to share your company’s ideas and concepts, showing off your brand’s tone and voice. Photos and imagery also allow you to show off the people who make up your business. But, video is the only media that can bring both of these elements together to show off your company’s full identity to help you make more personal connections with your audience (Wistia)

How many locations are we shooting in? How many days will it take? Do we need motion graphics etc etc. There are many things to take into account.. But to give you an idea, a brand story video package to re-purpose everything for all social media platforms will start at around $4000-$5000 and goes up from there depending on complexity.

So why does good video cost this much? Good video isn’t cheap and there’s several reasons for that. Video equipment is expensive and all of the other business expenses that go with it aren’t cheap either - there’s music licensing, editing programs, computers, memory storage, web hosting and more. But on top of this you are paying for the years and years of work that your producer has put in to get to that level and you’re also paying for the immense time they will be spending on your project to ensure you achieve amazing results.
